Josh Hoper, CEO of ABS Fargo, is driven to help non-profit and for-profit organizations. Like many “next generation” leaders, his time is limited, and his desire to serve is great. Josh is very deliberate when selecting volunteer opportunities.
“I do my due diligence before committing time and energy toward an organization,” says Josh. “It is important to me to determine if an organization is open to new ideas, and whether they have defined clear expectations for volunteers. I chose my current volunteer leadership role after clearly seeing the board’s openness to fresh leadership.”
Josh currently serves as board vice president on his local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, and will serve as its 2016 – 2017 board president. His volunteer commitment extends through 2019.
At a time when so many non-profit boards of directors are struggling to attract leaders, what drove Josh to make this multi-year commitment?
“In order to be effective, a board needs to connect the mission of the organization with the individuals who are involved,” says Josh. “If an organization can capitalize on the talents of its volunteer leaders, it is easy for people to commit long-term.”
Josh is energized by the mission of the organization and work he is doing.
“A good board leader can build coalitions between people,” says Josh. “That is where the real magic in non-profit leadership is: to get buy-in among a group with different ideas, in order to get things done for the organization.”
Josh Hoper’s passion for helping organizations to define and achieve their goals is fueled by his more than 20 years of experience in sales, management, executive, technical, training and consulting roles. Josh founded ABS Fargo in 2013, and works with organizations of all types to identify the greatest opportunities to improve cash flow and profitability.
