AchieveMpls Annual Education Partners Luncheon with Dr. Robert W. Simmons III
WHAT: Presented by Best Buy with Platinum Sponsors Target and U.S. Bank, this annual event brings together over 600 Twin Cities business, education and civic leaders to celebrate and renew our community’s strong commitment to public education and success for all Minneapolis students.
DETAILS: Young men of color are more than just statistics. Individually and collectively they are amazingly talented people with tremendous promise, potential and power. Each one of us is responsible – individuals, schools, faith communities, businesses, community groups and political leaders—to ensure that these students have the resources, confidence and opportunities they need to succeed.
Dr. Robert Simmons III—a nationally-recognized urban education scholar and innovator with a passion for education equity—will explore powerful strategies that make a real difference for young men of color and our entire community. A native of Detroit, Dr. Simmons is Chief of Innovation and Research for the District of Columbia Public Schools and founding director of the Center for Innovation in Urban Education at Loyola University Maryland.

SPEAKER: Dr. Robert Simmons III is a nationally recognized urban education scholar and innovator with a passion for empowering young men of color. A former Detroit science teacher, he is Chief of Innovation and Research for the District of Columbia Public Schools and founding director of the Center for Innovation in Urban Education at Loyola University Maryland. He has also served as a research associate at the Baltimore Educational Research Consortium at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Simmons is co-editor of Talking About Race: Alleviating the Fear, and contributing author for the highly-acclaimed White Teachers / Diverse Classrooms: Creating Inclusive Schools, Building on Students’ Diversity and Providing True Education Equity.
