Management HQ Team Serves Children at Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery
In celebration of Management HQ’s 3 year anniversary, the Management HQ team attended a staff retreat and strategic planning session at the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. For lunch, the MHQ team participated in the Cook for Kids Meals program where they cooked and served lunch for approximately 30 children, nursery staff and volunteers.
The Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, amongst other services, provides children in crisis with overnight residential child care. The Cook for Kids Meals program provides the opportunity for groups of up to six people to plan, purchase, prepare and serve meals for the children at the nursery.
“The mission of the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery is to end child abuse and neglect and create strong healthy families,” said Executive Director Mary Pat Lee. “Volunteers are essential if we are going to achieve that mission. Last year alone, volunteers shared 18,663 hours of their time and talent with the Crisis Nursery. This represents the equivalent of 9 FTEs. Volunteers are a priceless resource for keeping children safe and families whole.”
Here is what some MHQ team members said about their experience:
“It was such a treat to do some community service with the Management HQ team. I feel like we all do our own little parts to make the world a better place, but to experience a new volunteer opportunity by providing service as a team was wonderful. It provided me with a possible new venture of my own and brought us together as a team. I look forward to more opportunities like this in the future.” ~ Tammy Schoenberg.
“I volunteered for the first time at the Crisis Nursery in Minneapolis with my colleagues at Management HQ. Since this was my first experience with the Crisis Nursery, I had little knowledge about what this experience would entail. Immediately when I got there, we were greeted by friendly staff and I felt very welcome. My favorite part of the entire experience was interacting with the children and to see their smiling faces laughing and enjoying their meals. The children’s’ positivity and resilience despite the adversity in their lives was such an eye-opening and fulfilling experience. I was very humbled.” ~ Kathy Choh
“The highlight of my time at the crisis nursery was seeing the smiles on the children’s faces while they ate. Bringing joy to children who come from such difficult situations was one of the most meaningful things I have done all year. I am honored to work for a company who encourages their employees to give back.” ~ Nick Bock
“Giving back is important to me. That’s why I serve on the board of the Crisis Nursery. When I can combine my personal beliefs with my professional work, a winning combination emerges!” ~ Kevin Ward
