Happy Global Volunteer Month! I extend heartfelt gratitude to our volunteer leaders, whose dedication and passion fuel our collective impact every day.
In December, driven by our core question, “How can we better serve our clients as they grow and change?” we identified three strategic focus areas for 2025:
- Client Growth
- Operational Excellence and Efficiency
- Developing Future-Ready Leadership
To bring these focus areas to life, we launched three internal team taskforces, empowering them to create actionable recommendations and plans aligned with our strategic goals. I’m thrilled to report that these taskforces have delivered impressive, practical solutions to move us forward.
We also updated our core values by introducing Growth, defined as embracing learning, adapting, and continuous improvement to help our team, clients, and communities thrive. (We briefly mentioned this update in an earlier newsletter, but its significance continues to guide our work throughout the year.)
As we move into Q2, we’re excited to begin implementing these strategic initiatives, ensuring MHQ remains responsive, efficient, and prepared for future leadership challenges.
Connecting at the NARST Annual Conference
We recently supported the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) at their annual conference, welcoming 1,240 attendees dedicated to advancing science literacy. Congratulations to the new NARST board president, Dr. Jennifer Adams, and our deepest thanks to outgoing president Jerome Shaw for his exemplary leadership, and to Jomo Mutegi for his ongoing guidance and commitment. More about the conference here.
Expanding AFERM’s Impact
We’re proud to support the Association for Federal Enterprise Risk Management (AFERM) as they expand their reach into state and local government through a robust online virtual program. AFERM continues to lead in advancing enterprise risk management through thought leadership, education, and collaboration.
Celebrating Team Milestones
This spring, we celebrated two important team anniversaries. Kent Fordyce marked an incredible decade with MHQ in March, and Mike Swan recently celebrated his third anniversary. I extend my deepest gratitude for the brilliance, creativity, and dedication they bring to our team and our clients every day.
In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find valuable insights, including contributions from the fabulous Cecelia Stanton-Adams, expert leadership resources, and a special spotlight on our vibrant headquarters city—Minneapolis, Minnesota.
I am deeply proud that MHQ is growing intentionally and strategically to meet our clients’ evolving needs and building capacity where it truly matters. This intentional growth helps our clients stay lean, focused, and mission-driven.
Wishing you a Spring filled with hope and joy.
