February 2nd was Self Renewal Day, a day dedicated to encouraging everyone to focus on their personal growth and well‑being. This special day reminds us to step back from our hectic routines and reflect on what truly matters in our lives.
We asked members of our MHQ team to share their favorite self‑care tips, and we hope you find them helpful in your own journey toward well‑being.

Mackenzie Kelley, Executive Director
I try to get to our YWCA as much as I can to work out and use the sauna. I’m a big fan of drinking hot water with ginger, turmeric, lemon, and sea salt each morning. And then, when we can, just being outside—going for a walk, golfing, or enjoying a pontoon ride on our lake!

Mike Swan, Membership Manager & Executive Director
Bar trivia for me! It’s a chance to get out of the house, spend time with community, and have a good balance of open socializing with a designated activity.
Kael Henlock, Client Services & Membership Coordinator
Fun self-care can look like treating yourself to something tasty and savoring it, buying a small delight like a coloring book or cozy sweater, taking yourself out to eat, sitting in the sun at a park, visiting a concert or art museum, or moving your body through yoga, walking, or guided meditation (My favorite is guided meditation through the Insight Timer App!). Boring-but-necessary self-care includes brushing your teeth, showering, drinking water, taking your meds, making sure you’ve eaten, planning meals, grocery shopping, and cleaning a room or even just one spot. My personal favorites are rage cleaning to feel a sense of control, doing guided meditations on Insight Timer, enjoying a yummy snack, and blasting music to dance it out in my office or room.

Dara Rudick, CAE, CEO
I am my best self when I get a good night’s sleep; I work hard to be disciplined about my bedtime and when I wake up. Everything else in my day seems to flow from there!

Lynn Noble, Events and Sponsorship Coordinator
Set an alarm every hour to get up and stretch, even if it’s just a couple of minutes between meetings; and when you need a longer break, get outside for fresh air, sunshine, and a walk. It resets my mood and helps me focus on the next task.

Amy Sellheim, Events Manager
Regular massage therapy; limit screen time 30 minutes before bed; move my body more.
