Thank YOU.
Yes, you. If you’ve ever served on an MHQ client board, sat in a MHQ Monday morning team meeting, listened to an MHQ staff member retell the adventures of their day, shared MHQ’s name with a colleague, or even read the first paragraph of this article, THANK YOU.
Some of you are among our first clients who took a chance on us to manage your association early on. Some of you are among our first team members, those who said “yes” to an adventure in association management. Some of you are my beloved family, friends, colleagues and advisors. While you may still not completely get what “association management” is, your love and belief fuel me on this journey.
Many of you are the MHQ of today: brilliant and hard-working team members, talented and engaged association board leaders, and our wise and generous board of advisers.
You are part of a network of friends, colleagues, and champions who has helped to grow a tiny-little one-woman start-up company into a thriving organization that is having just the sort of impact that I dreamt of when I opened the doors on January 1, 2012.
We’ve evolved, like organizations do.
Some of the early start-up stage excitement and anxiety of a solo entrepreneur has grown into the wisdom and shared experience of a seasoned team deeply driven by serving our incredible clients.
The days of wondering if I could ever convince an association to work with MHQ have become the work of planning and visioning on behalf of our clients, associations who we are exactly who we dreamt of working with when I first started MHQ.
After the past “year-and-a-week,” I am moved by how good it feels to share with you this note of gratitude. I still believe that our vision of “helping our communities to thrive” is within our reach. I am not alone in my commitment to our values of Compassion, Openness, Service and Integrity. In fact, Aida Martinez-Freeman, MHQ managing director extraordinaire, leads our team in weekly discussions on how we are living those values.
MHQ is no longer me, a solo entrepreneur who took a chance in hopes of making a difference.
MHQ is now us – this diverse, vibrant group of humans – dreaming, planning and working on behalf of our amazing communities who we have the privilege to serve.
I am so grateful to be on the journey with you.
