Congratulations to MHQ’s own Steve Thomas, interim executive director of the Minnesota Association of Community Mental Health Programs (MACMHP) and founder of Better Futures Minnesota, an organization that provides opportunities for men with histories of incarceration and homelessness. As part of his work with Better Futures they have received funding to build 72 housing units, making it one of the few places in America where tenants with a felony record have preference for leasing. Better Futures believes everyone deserves a fair shot at the American dream, and for the men that they serve, that means the opportunity to become productive citizens, fathers, employees, and neighbors. Since 2007, Better Futures Minnesota’s unique model has helped men throughout Minnesota realize their potential for success and become responsible members of the community who earn wages, pay taxes and child support, and are self-sufficient and engaged in building their own success stories. |
