Thank you to MHQ’s Kael Henlock for their service on the board of JASM, the Japan America Society of Minnesota, which is a cultural organization with the goal to foster and develop great relationships between Japan and the U.S., specifically, Minnesota.
“JASM is important to me because of my love for learning and immersing myself in different cultures and wanting to sustain and protect those cultures” said Kael. “For 53 years JASM has celebrated the differences between Japanese and US culture creating a wonderful community that has been home to Japanese immigrants and Minnesotans who appreciate the culture. JASM aims to provide cultural education, understanding, and relationships. Through programs and events like Obon Festival, J-Quiz, and Know Me Kai’s, JASM has brought the beauty, discipline, and creativity of Japanese Culture to the Minnesotans while creating a safe touch of home for the Japanese individuals who live here. JASM fosters relationships not only with individuals but also with companies and
professionals. Ambassadors, artists, dancers, companies, the relationships that have been nurtured continue to bring more awareness about Japan to Minnesota.”
JASM offers high school and college students scholarships to study abroad in Japan. In order to raise the funds for this, JASM hosts educational, cultural, and fundraising events throughout the year.
