In the spirit of MHQ’s newly embraced core value of “Growth”, I am working on aligning my own journey more deeply with our values of Community, Service, Openness, Integrity, and Growth.
Six months ago, swept up in a whirlwind of information and advice on creating morning routines, I designed my own ideal morning routine.
The result was a powerful and beautiful way to start my day. My friends and colleagues are amused by my 5:00 am wake-up time, but for me, this early hour is a gift of quiet time to nourish my body, spirit, and mind. It helps me prepare for a purposeful day.
As part of this routine, I usually spend 20 minutes reading a practical, business-focused book to learn and gather actionable insights. Recently, however, I picked up a different kind of book; a book I’ve resisted reading for nearly a decade.
About eight years ago, a deeply spiritual friend recommended “The Soul of Money” by Lynne Twist, saying of it, “Money really does have a soul.” It didn’t sound like something I would like.
Reviewing some past notes and journals recently, it struck me how many times I had written down recommendations from others to read the book. Finally, I did.
Twist’s words were, honestly, a relief. As I read her book, these three concepts resonated with me:
- We have enough; we are enough.
- Our money, no matter how much or little, has the power to make a positive difference in the lives of others, and in the world.
- When we grasp the concept of sufficiency – not too much, just enough – we open our lives and our wallets to let our money flow toward positive, transformative work.
All easier said than truly believed, and I encourage you to read the book in Twist’s own words. But as I work to open up to possibilities for positive impact, exciting opportunities continue to arise.
I wish you many opportunities to have meaningful impact in ways that matter to you.
