Joy in the Journey
It has been a joyful journey across the U.S.
As I write this, I’m at the airport awaiting my final flight of five over the past three days.
It began with a birthday celebration for my 8-year-old niece, Caroline, in Louisville, Kentucky. We shared a visit to a local farm, a big, delicious dinner cooked by my sister, Stephanie, and a hotel swim party and sleepover with Caroline.
Then, off to Palm Springs, California, where MHQ team members Mike Swan, Amy Sellheim and I hosted a gathering for one of our long-time clients, launching a strategy session for their incredible community of government communicators.
Next, I headed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where MHQ team member Rachel Gaul and I attended a fabulous Gala and gained some quality face time with our newest client, a dedicated group of leaders in the insurance industry. We enjoyed the beautiful event which funded scholarships, and time getting to know these board members and their hopes and vision for the organization. We are excited to be a part of building their future!
Last stop: a meal with my cousins in Philly. It was beautiful to be in-person with family who I usually connect with only in text groups.
As the world of in-person gatherings re-started after the pandemic shut-down, I promised I would never again take for granted the chance to meet in-person with folks. My “no-room-for-flight-delays” “3-time-zones-in-3-days” trip challenged that commitment, but it is easy to be grateful for what I just experienced.
Among the folks who I spent time with were dedicated and talented MHQ team members, client volunteer board leaders who gift their time to better their professions, and federal airport employees who were helpful and kind, despite uncertainty around their own livelihoods.
And now, with continued gratitude, I’m heading home to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
With a deep understanding that many of us are experiencing extremely trying times, I hope you are still able to find joy in your journey!
