My Dog Is My Home is a national nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness and their companion animals. MHQ is proud to have My Dog Is My Home as our 2025 community partner for the second year in a row. This organization is having a powerful impact and provides invaluable support to keep people and their pets together.
In addition to supporting the organization by donating a percentage of MHQ’s revenue in honor of our clients, we share information about the organization each month and provide in-kind consulting services.
Recap: My Dog Is My Home Open House at URI
On September 11 in NYC, My Dog Is My Home hosted an open house with URI, the largest provider of domestic violence sheltering in the US. The event was attended by 27 representatives from emergency housing facilities, animal welfare organizations, and government.
Following a presentation about co-sheltering, attendees heard a story of lived experience from Lisa Mosley, a participant in My Dog Is My Home’s storytelling program & former URI shelter resident. Attendees also toured one of URI’s pet-inclusive housing facilities.

Policy Corner: Join Our Coalition!
Right now, in New York State, critical legislation has been introduced by Senator Monica Martinez and Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal with the potential to greatly increase pet-inclusive emergency housing for people experiencing homelessness, including survivors of domestic violence.
If passed, this can create more housing in New York State for people experiencing homelessness and their pets, but we need your help!
Email christine@mydogismyhome.org to find out more and join our coalition to pass this important legislation.
