At MHQ, community isn’t just a core value, it’s a commitment. That’s why 100% of our team members volunteer in support of the causes and organizations they care about.
For MHQ Executive Director and Membership Manager Mike Swan, that impact comes through supporting the arts and helping sustain a theater company that has played an important role in his own professional journey.
Mike currently serves as Board Chair of Girl Friday Productions, a Minneapolis-based professional theater company known as “the little company that does big plays.”
The organization focuses on larger-scale, primarily American, plays that are produced less frequently today. Through its work, Girl Friday Productions seeks to nurture artists, inspire audiences, and illuminate the human condition.
For Mike, the role is both personal and professional.
“My first career was as a professional actor, and Girl Friday played a significant role during that period of my life,” he said. “What I admire about the company is that it treats its artists as working professionals and works hard to compensate them at higher rates than most other companies of its size. I’m honored to use my extensive governance and management experiences as an association professional to serve an organization that served me so well.”
Currently, Girl Friday Productions is presenting “Wife of a Salesman,” running through October 4. Those interested in supporting local theater and experiencing the company’s work firsthand can learn more and purchase tickets by visiting www.girlfridayproductions.org.
Volunteer service allows professionals to share their expertise in ways that strengthen communities, and Mike’s leadership with Girl Friday Productions demonstrates MHQ’s values in action.
