My Dog Is My Home is a national nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness and their companion animals. MHQ is proud to have My Dog Is My Home as our 2026 community partner for the second year in a row. This organization is having a powerful impact and provides invaluable support to keep people and their pets together.
In addition to supporting the organization by donating a percentage of MHQ’s revenue in honor of our clients, we share information about the organization each month and provide in-kind consulting services.
My Dog Is My Home Co-Publishes Report on California’s PAS With the Homeless Policy Research Institute, and the ASPCA
My Dog Is My Home is excited to announce the publication of our report with the USC Homeless Policy Research Institute and the ASPCA, “Understanding the Impact of California’s Pet Assistance and Support (PAS).”
In 2019, California established the Pet Assistance and Support (PAS) program, providing shelters and service providers with the necessary funding to accommodate pets. $15.75 million was distributed to 243 sites across the state, enabling them to open their doors to 489 unhoused pet owners, on average, annually. This report demonstrates how pet-inclusive policies expanded access to housing.

NYC Mayor Mamdani’s Office Issues Pet-Inclusive Housing Best Practices
We’re excited to share that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Office has issued “Pet-Inclusive Housing in New York City: A Guide on Best Practices,” with detailed guidelines, recommendations, legal advice, and case studies to support pet-inclusive housing in NYC.
As the guide states, “Pet-inclusive housing isn’t just a compassionate choice–it’s a smart, sustainable one that’s good for business. When communities remove unnecessary barriers, they create safer, healthier, and more welcoming environments for all New Yorkers, both two and four-legged.”
